a thousand times over

I am speechless.  It’s a minor miracle for me to have nothing to say, anyone that has ever read this blog is aware of my blowhard abilities. Yet today I have little to say, I am in awe.

Over the past week a number of restaurants, and a pastry shop have banded together to raise money for the folks at Blackbird and Heidi’s, and their respective staffs.  As well a number of restos have called up to take on the staff at Heidi’s affected by the fire.

Yesterday Salty Tart, led by Michelle Gayer was donating funds for that purpose.

On March 14th the event “Fork the Fire“, will be held.  Spearheaded by Molly Broder and famous epicureans Bob and Sue Macdonald, they are planning an evening, with 55 restaurants participating.

Some folks say that it’s adversity that builds character, yet others say it’s adversity that reveals character.  I think this fire has revealed in many a character and attitude about community that goes to the very heart of why this is such a special place to live and work.  Despite this misfortune, I can’t help but to feel tremendous grattitude.

On behalf of the team at Heidi’s please accept our sincere thank yous, a thousand times over.

Is the lamb shank making a cameo anywhere?

no one chips in like the restaurant community, no one. they are always there, first and in big numbers. and a huge tip of the toque to Vincent and Alex and the Ansari’s and all the others who are working hard to make the events of the 14th happen in a big way. you are right SW, this is a great community to be a part of.

My husband and I just recently moved away from Mpls to Austin, TX and were horrified to hear about what happened. We loved eating at your restaurant. LOVED it. I still have dreams about the anise flavored lamb shank—and the foie gras and caviar blini you had on the menu a while back. We couldn’t always afford to eat at Heidi’s, but when we could, we made the effort, and thanked our lucky stars we had a fantastic and special experience within walking distance of our home.

Good luck to you and everyone in the next while.
