Round Up
The week that was, was a wild one. Last minute details came together very nicely for Birdhouse. Heidi and I are not of the chain restaurant building ilk. We don’t believe that you pull a resto out of a box, and voila, serve up some ubiquitous burgers and fries, “hey potted meat, aren’t we cute”, and go around patting ourselves on the back. We strive to open unique places, not rip offs of other joints. Sure a couple of the clueless critics will lap it up (the potted meat joints), but ain’t no stopping that.
We like to live in a space let it come to full fruition, eat the food and create environments and spaces that feel natural and as if they have always been there. All that means to say that Jim and Cindi Smart were running around town antiquing at the last minute to get some of the perfect pictures up on the wall-they are the best.
Mo Perry at CityPages wrote a nice piece, as did a few others, there was even the first hater of this project posting a comment, something to the effect, “I give it a year, max”. I love haters, especially the anonymous ones that are also experts. Hilarious shit. I don’t think they realize how much I enjoy them. They make me happy, they make me laugh, and I enjoy every bite of the delicious food I am eating just a little bit more as I bask in the sweetness of their jealousy and hatred. The harder they hate, the happier I am, and the more I know I am onto something good.

I think the CP comments section is well-staffed by an army of trolls who don’t necessarily have a thoughtful opinion, they just post barbs to stir the pot. I commented once on a CP article and someone responded to me saying to “get over myself” and proceeded to basically agree with what I was saying. It revealed their complete lack of engagement with the discussion at hand. Almost like a bot.
Haters will hate. Tollers will troll. Botters will bot. They’re all pretty hilarious to me.
Made it to Birdhouse last Friday (too dang hot to cook in our un-airconditioned house) – very nice. I love that we can have good, healthy food, with so many interesting veggie choices (this from a non-vegetarian).
And as for the artwork, seriously, if I had a bigger purse… There are several that I’d love in my house. (So if you get to the point of wanting to switch things out, let me know!)
