Maths
The Huffington Post ran an original story on Saturday, meaning they ran a story wherein they actually created content!
Woot, woot!
Before you get too excited the story was about how server wages have been stagnant.
I know maths is hard for some folks, but every time a menu item goes up in price, servers get more compensation. Our entire server compensation system is based on that fact. Don’t like the system? Fine, but blaming governments is a sad, stupid, pathetic joke.
Yes, many restos that do nothing but reheat processed food have not raised prices, nor do they deserve to, they don’t do the work, they serve crap. The only outrage is that some shitty place that hasn’t spent a cent on its people or its place still gets consumer support only cause it’s cheap.
Servers in Minnesota receive $7.25 an hour as a minimum, the good ones make bank, the bad ones don’t.
Only semi-related, but I had to mention… I think “Look Around You” is one of the funniest series ever made.
love the look around you folks, anytime a good laugh is needed that’s the first place to start.
That article is flawed in so many ways. The server in question has a bachelor’s degree, but prefers restaurant work. So fine, it’s not like this is a surprise – she’s been working in the industry for 30 years. And no retirement plan? How about a Roth IRA? How about a traditional IRA? Waahh… I’d like someone to feed me too… Oh wait, does she get a family meal, or a food or drink discount?
This is an easy target for a journalist, since $2.13 sounds so low – and of course it is, compared to $7 or $9. I notice that she doesn’t say how much she earns per hour when counting tips – probably more than many folks in the kitchen, and I’m pretty certain if included it wouldn’t make such a sensational story.
