Dee Wayne here…how are you?
With the Twins starting its season, it made me excited for Baseball!!
Baseball…America’s favorite pastime.
Food…Dee Wayne’s favorite pastime.
Next year, the Twins open a new baseball stadium…and it got me thinking (insert joke here)
Baseball parks are a great way to judge the food sensibility of a community:
Baltimore…crab cake sandwich
Seattle — the Ichiroll
Milwaukee–the grilled bratwurst
Philly — cheese steak
Minnesota –??????
What is our signature dish?
Walleye on a stick? Deep fried bacon? Cheese curds?
I need your help…the Twins need your help…what will be Target Field’s signature dish?

Clearly, they should craft the ultimate juicy lucy. It could become the new standard, so representative that once the boys are playoff bound, the Homer Hanky could finally be retired as the faithful all wave their iconic burgers in the air. Just a thought….

Lutefisk: no way! I have zero Scandinavian blood in me and will have no truck with lutefisk.
How about Famous Dave’s bacon dipped in chocolate like they had at the Fair? Local company. I’d also enjoy deep fried walleye anything (with pea puree as a dip?) or any JucyLucy variant.

A Juicy Lucy would be great. I could just see Sunday Night baseball doing a little showcase on the Ballpark food. I’ve seen a showcase on the food at Fenway with a ESPN reporter tasting all the food around the ballpark.
Other ballparks would likely copy the this idea. It would be great if Minnesota gets the credit it would deserve and have the Juicy Lucy become an item in the national conscience.
On the other hand, I am not sure how viable producing large quantities of the burgers would be. I am also guessing that the taste would be similarly disappointing to when one knows the taste of an excellent version of a ballpark food, and the ballpark version tastes like it was cooked long ago and reheated like the burgers at the Metrodome.
That could be beside the point, however, with being “good enough” all that could be expected in most ballpark situations.

How about tuna casserole or some sort of hot dish, on a stick? I have no idea how one would begin to make this, and I promise not to try this at home, but I am sure the professionals could come up with a suitable rendition.

I’ll invest in the medical provider for the Twinkies park if they go with the juicy Lucy, can you imagine the mouth burns…(just sour grapes cause none liked my lutefisk idea).

It’s not a bad idea but really? Lutefisk? White fish soaked in lye is not amazing. I think people are hating for a justifiable reason. I’ll eat it and have, but only to be polite. Also you’re only cornering a small percentage of the population of our state with this so called “delicacy”.

Cheese curds should be mandatory.
Tater Tots would be great, if possible flavored ala Bulldog NE.
Perhaps some more interesting fare via Nicollet/Lake Street: Banh mis, tortas, tacos, shawarma etc…
An improvement to the beer selection would be greatly appreciated.

Stadium Banh Mi would be a dream come true. Quick, cheap and delicious plus pairs great with beer. Speaking of Bahn Mi, did anyone read the Vietnamese food porn in the NYT Tuesday? http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2009/04/07/dining/08banh.5.ready.html

I must strongly agree with the Juicy Lucy! Our new Minneapolis ballpark needs a South Minneapolis invention. Let’s make our mark right now. Minnesota needs to be known for something delicious and get over this whole lutefisk joke. The Juicy Lucy will put us on the culinary map.
