Vegas Baby…Vegas!!!
Dee Wayne here…how are you?
I just got back from Las Vegas (a.k.a Lost Wages) and had some unbelievable food.
Las Vegas has the uncanny ability to reinvent itself every couple of years, and the Celebrity Chef driven joints are plentiful.
The question is though…will people pay for cheap or excellent food? With the current economic crisis upon us, the deals in Vegas are plenty. Even the hookers are offering discounts.
I ate at Mario Batali’s restaurant B &B…a couple of thoughts:
Cool Vibe…a place that serves excellent food while playing the Red Hot Chili Peppers…forkin a’!
Grilled Octopus..Oxtail gnocchi…lamb chops..killer Sicilian vino
Damn…I got to go back there….(note to readers, after writing this paragraph, Dee Wayne was on Orbitz looking for flights to Vegas)
Back to my story…next stop…Thomas Keller’s Bouchon
It’s a French Bistro bitch…an in your face Frenchy bistro. I was pissed that I didn’t wear a beret. Oh well.
I started off with a bouillabaisse…very nice, lots of great flavor…mussels, robster craws
Next, pork (yes Rabbi it’s Kosher) reminded me of a dish that Uncle Stewart Woodman would cook. Unbelievable sauce, parsnip puree, lots of love. Do I need to say more?
I finished it off with a tasting of a variety of fortified wine…I need to go back to this joint soon!
FYI, 45 minute roll on the Craps table that night. Vegas baby…Vegas!!!

exactly how much of a discount are the hookers offering?
ate at Bouchon in Napa. bought the cookbooks. left me flat. still wish I’d shelled out the extra ducats for the French Laundry experience.
road trip to Napa?
Uncle Stewart…are you in?
Halloween is to children as 3 days in Napa is to adults. IN! Let’s do some Trick or Drinking!
What did he serve the octopus with? Do you have photos? Please post, Mario Batali is a genius.
Dear Chef Slut,
The octopus was grilled with a spicy marinara and a limoncello vinagrette. It was awesome! Sorry no pictures.
