Usually I just read, and rarely do I partake in the comment banter, but today I can't help myself (mostly because that poem kicks @$%). I find your writing as enjoyable as the food in your establishments! Had a super first time Lunch experience at Birdhouse when I was visiting last week from IA (tempura shrimp, kale soup, & slow cooked pork sammy special). **How about Pork Ramen as a permanent mainstay on the BH menu?! Keep up the inspirational programs! Looking forward to my next Heidi's dinner...

Apologies to eric, and dale for your comments that went to spam.

No Tamara an owner cannot remove a comment. The only real luck we have had in removing comments is with the ADL, they have championed us when it came to antisemitic comments that needed to be removed. Sadly we still witness this behavior on a regular basis, it seems to have found a welcome home on Yelp, and urbanspoon.

Can't you remove the comment? I thought the owners could do such a thing. And it's awful that immature people have nothing better to do. Sorry about yelp

Shef, my larger point was that people could, in either casual conversation or on literally any social media site (twitter for example) say anything about any place of business.

Do I have a moral obligation to ignore the existence or tavern conversations or of twitter simply because some of the participants say bad things?

To say what? She's not a drunk? Someone has made an affirmative statment, a declaration of fact without any supporting information. And I have to defend my wife to them? That's fucked up, any asshole can say anything and the owner is in the postition of having to respond?

My experience with Yelp is not isolated, many businesses have experienced the exact same sales pitch. Click to read the pay for jockeying your review scam: http://www.ripoffreport.com/directory/yelp.aspx

So no, hundreds of people are not lying. Anyway, why would I dig my heals in and kick up such a fuss, it's not a "sour grapes" type situation because I have a 4 out of 5 star ranking. Shouldn't I have just kept mum gone about my business?

No.

If you doubt any further, just check out their latest posting on Yelp which is pretty accurate picture of how Yelpers reduce AZ and Shef with the mean spiritedness of a middle school bully. More importantly, the head honcho Annnie D, incourages their poor behavior.

Lastly, even Yelpers only gives Yelp 3 out of 5 stars.

As you are considering that question consider Heidi in the equation.

Here she is, works maybe a hundred hours a week, believes that her work has value, that being a part of peoples lives is meaningful. Yes it's work that she derives extraordinary personal gain from, and she should be careful, to complain about the job, or it's attributes-good and bad. We should all be very thankful for the blessing we receive.

But why is something that is not permitted in print media, or any other form allowed online. Why is Heidi, allowed to be accused of being drunk, that's outrageous. It's a statement of fact, and legally if you made that comment in any other context I would sue you. Why? Because it matters how we treat each other, and we have laws that reflect that.

The internet is so new that we have not caught up to sanctioning behavior we know already is wrong. Because we treat it wrong in every other context-we have learned.

We will look back and be disappointed that folks were allowed to behave in such a heinous manner, you may not think it's heinous, but if you had to see a comment like that, made about you. You would very likely change your tune, not everyone will, eric doesn't seem to care as long as he benefits. We are not learning from our own history, and that shit is scary.
